TENS Machine Hire
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a drug-free pain relief option, often used by women in early labour. It works in a number of ways, including:
* preventing pain signals from reaching the brain
* releasing feel-good substances called Endorphins
* offering a distraction from contractions
* helping you feel less anxious and more in control of labour
TENS is most beneficial when used from early labour. You can start using it from when you're getting regular contractions. It can be especially helpful in managing your pain when labouring at home before heading into hospital.
Bump Physio & Pilates are stockists of the ElleTENS machines, specifically designed for labour. We offer these TENS machines for both purchase and hire. When purchasing a TENS machine, you may be eligible for a rebate through your health insurance.
When hiring a TENS machine from Bump Physio, a physiotherapist will go through the use of the TENS machine with you. We offer an initial hire period of 3 weeks, and recommend hiring from 38 weeks gestation unless your health professional has suggested you may go into labour earlier. The cost of this hire is $50 and includes brand new electrodes and batteries, a clean sterilised machine and a pouch to store all the items safely in your labour bag. Should you require the machine for longer, there is a charge of $10 for each additional week.
